Guernsey Heritage Festival 2018

Each year, the Heritage Festival celebrates a different aspect of Channel Islands heritage.  In previous years, guests have been thrilled by seafaring tales, piracy and maritime history and fascinated by local myths and ancient legends.

This year the Guernsey Heritage Festival focuses on the German occupation and liberation of the channel islands during World War 2.   Between the 30th March and 10th May 2018, the island will remember this unique time through themed events and activities, story-telling, exhibitions, guided tours and the opening of fortifications.

Adding a unique touch to the Heritage Festival this year is the release of the film, The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society.  The film is adapted from the book of the same name, in which the island is brought to life through the exchange of letters and tales.  With historical accuracy and empathy, the book shows what it was like for the islands' inhabitants to live under the command of a controlling (and often cruel) foreign force.

Enjoying a wonderful Guernsey holiday when the Heritage Festival is on will give visitors a unique understanding of the 'occupation experience'.

We have put together two guides which will help you make the most of your holiday in Guernsey.  The first suggested itinerary is for those who want to see Guernsey as depicted in 'the book' and enjoy the charm of this beautiful island.  The second itinerary recommends many of the Heritage Festival events that focus on the WW2 military occuaption, but still leaving time for relaxation!
