Managing Risk

Clean and Aware

Rainbow

At the Ellingham Self-Catering, we have always tried to do all that we can to make your holiday enjoyable and relaxing.  For our 2021 guests, we have reviewed all aspects of your stay and have put into place many layers of small measures that provide extra care and minimise risk. Below provides a brief overview, but please contact Fiona on 07781 131873 if you would like to chat more about the Ellingham risk assessment and protective measures .

Cleanliness & Hygiene

Our housekeeping team wear protective gloves, masks and aprons which are changed between cottage cleans; they have received extra training on cleaning procedures in line with latest advice; we have changed our cleaning products to instead use virucidal products; and we use a fogging machine to finish each changeover clean to ensure that even soft furnishings are disinfected.

We provide sanitiser sprays and disposable cloths in all the places that you would hope to find some.

We still provide a mid-week change of towels to all our guests. The Guest Handbook will inform you of the process.

Reduce Cross-Contamination

We receive many compliments on our Guest Handbook.  It is full with lots of useful information - about The Ellingham, but also jam-packed with recommendations, local tips and all that you need to tailor your holiday.  For you, we have replaced our well-thumbed Handbooks with a refreshed and even better online version!  As you can access from any device, you can take the Handbook with you wherever you go.  Our time in lockdown has not been wasted!

We have thought about how we can still provide you with a small stock of useful kitchen items (cling film, sugar sticks, coffee sticks, washing-up liquid etc), without there being the concern that they have potentially been touched by another household. We don’t want to be wasteful either though!  We will remove all unused items on your departure and put into a box.  We will provide our arriving guests with the unused items removed/boxed-up the preceding week. We know that the virus doesn't last long on surfaces and so by having a Week A / Week B solution we minimise risk, still provide guests with useful items and stay green!

The same principle applies for books, games and DvDs borrowed from the Guest Library.  You are free to borrow as much as you like, as often as you like (we are very well-stocked!). The only change is that there will be a box for you to return them to, instead of returning to the library.  We will work our sanitising magic before they are returned to the Library for others to borrow.

Interactions

Sometimes we wait for hours for guests to turn up and then you all arrive at once (30 minutes after the ferry has docked unsurprisingly)! To stop the Office being the hang-out place whilst you wait for your welcome and keys, we now use key boxes. We will get in touch a few days before to give you the key box code and to ask whether you would prefer a telephone, or video call welcome, or a personal welcome (in which case, we will knock on your door shortly after you get to us - but we will maintain a polite distance).

How You Can Help Us

There are a few things that we kindly ask of you:

  • To be considerate of other guests and use the sanitiser spray to wipe down communal outdoor tables and chairs after use.
  • Please do your washing-up before you leave.  After, please fill the bowl with fresh water and the sanitiser tablets provided, and put the cutlery and glasses in to soak. This will help us greatly.  We will have time to sanitise the crockery and pans etc.
  • To leave the cottage windows open on on the day of your departure
  • When you leave, to remove all food and drink and other items that you have brought with you
  • To only enter the Guest Library when it is empty.
